How to Apply for a Driver Job in Dubai: Requirements and Application Process

1. First decide which driver job you want

Common categories include:

  • Light vehicle / company driver — cars, vans, small delivery vehicles
  • Delivery driver
  • Taxi driver
  • Luxury/chauffeur driver
  • Heavy vehicle driver — trucks, buses, etc.
  • School bus driver

The requirements and RTA permits differ by category. For example, Dubai’s professional-driver permits cover taxi/luxury-vehicle, school-bus and tourist-vehicle drivers.

2. Basic requirements

For a typical light-vehicle/company-driver position, employers commonly look for:

  • Valid Pakistani passport
  • Valid Pakistani driving licence
  • Driving experience
  • Good driving record
  • Ability to communicate in basic English
  • Medical fitness
  • Clean police/criminal record where required
  • Age generally 18+ for employment, although particular professional-driver permits can have higher age requirements. UAE work-permit rules require workers to be at least 18.

Important: A Pakistani driving licence does not automatically allow you to work as a driver in Dubai. You generally need the appropriate UAE driving licence, and certain professional driving jobs additionally require an RTA professional driver permit.

3. Find a genuine employer

You can apply while still in Pakistan through:

  • UAE company career pages
  • Licensed overseas recruitment agencies
  • Job websites
  • Direct applications to logistics, transport, hotel, delivery and chauffeur companies

Be careful with agents promising “Dubai driver visa guaranteed” in exchange for a large advance payment.

A legitimate UAE employment process involves an official job offer and employment contract. The UAE government says the employer must obtain the appropriate work permit; working without a valid work permit is illegal.

4. Receive and verify the job offer

Before paying anyone or travelling, check:

  • Company name
  • Job title
  • Basic salary
  • Accommodation
  • Food/food allowance
  • Working hours
  • Overtime
  • Annual leave
  • Air-ticket terms
  • Medical insurance
  • Who pays visa/recruitment-related costs
  • Contract duration

The UAE government says the formal offer should set out the employee’s rights and obligations, and the signed offer is used for the initial work-permit application.

5. Employer applies for your UAE work permit

If the company selects you, the employer normally handles the employment visa/work-permit process.

The current UAE process has been streamlined through the Work Bundle, which combines work-permit, residency, Emirates ID, medical-fitness and employment-contract procedures.

You should not normally need to arrive in Dubai on a tourist visa and start working. You need the appropriate authorization to work.

6. Travel to Dubai

Once the employment entry/work authorization is issued, you travel to Dubai.

After arrival, the employer completes the remaining procedures, including the medical fitness examination, Emirates ID and residence/work formalities.

7. Get your UAE driving licence

This is the most important part for someone coming from Pakistan.

If your existing foreign licence isn’t eligible for direct exchange, you’ll generally need to go through Dubai’s driving-licence process: open the required traffic file, complete the eye test, take driving training and pass the required tests. RTA describes the process as training followed by knowledge/yard/road testing and issuance after successfully passing the final test.

Whether you can exchange your Pakistani licence rather than taking the full process depends on RTA’s current list of eligible countries. RTA’s exchange service is specifically for licences issued by countries eligible for exchange.

8. Professional driver permit, if required

For jobs such as taxi or luxury-vehicle driving, your employer may need to obtain an RTA professional-driver permit for you.

For example, RTA’s current taxi/luxury professional-driver process requires the company to add the driver using the Emirates ID, arrange training, have the driver pass the theory test and evaluation, and then obtain the digital permit. The listed requirements include Emirates ID, electronic police clearance, medical report, English-language test results and psychological screening. The permit is valid for one year.

So there are really two separate things:

UAE employment authorization + UAE driving licence/appropriate professional permit.

Rough pathway from Pakistan

Pakistan → Find genuine employer → Official job offer → Employer work permit → Employment entry authorization → Travel to Dubai → Medical → Emirates ID/residence → UAE driving licence → RTA professional permit if applicable → Start driving job

Documents I recommend preparing now

Have clear scans/copies of:

  1. Passport
  2. CNIC
  3. Pakistani driving licence — front and back
  4. Driving-licence history/verification if available
  5. Passport-size photographs
  6. Educational certificate, if requested
  7. Experience letters
  8. Police character certificate, if requested
  9. Updated CV
  10. Previous employment details/references

One important point: Don’t assume that an agent saying “visa included” means you can immediately drive professionally. The employer, work permit, UAE licence and—where applicable—RTA permit all need to be handled correctly.

If you tell me your age, whether you have a Pakistani LTV/HTV licence, how many years you’ve been driving, and whether you want car/taxi/delivery/truck driving, I can give you the exact Dubai driver route, expected salary range, documents, and where/how to apply from Pakistan.
